An archival-driven biographical portrait of the life, work and legacy of pioneering lesbian experimental filmmaker, Barbara Hammer, tracing her prolific canon alongside never-before-seen documentations of her life and body. Through an exploration of Hammer’s films, archive & ongoing cultural impact, this documentary reveals her ingenious lifelong artistic effort to create and record lesbian histories – personal and societal - and the path she carved for young queer people, women, and artists today.

In 1980s East Germany, Barbara is a Berlin doctor banished to a country medical clinic for applying for an exit visa. Deeply unhappy with her reassignment and fearful of her co-workers as possible Stasi informants, Barbara stays aloof, especially from the good natured clinic head, Andre.

They have to go to Santa Barbara which they both admire.
